Netflix, Prime Video and Zoom feature in Apple’s foldable-app showcase. The announcement demonstrates developer support without establishing an across-the-board advantage over Android.
Apple has outlined how developers are adapting apps for the iPhone Duo, highlighting entertainment, productivity and creative experiences designed around its folding display.
The phone’s availability begins October 23, 2026, including in India. However, Apple’s app announcement combines launch-period experiences with updates scheduled for later, making the timing worth checking app by app.
Streaming and video calls get room to breathe
Apple describes Netflix adapting between the outer and inner displays. Prime Video uses a partially folded layout to place video above X-Ray information, while Zoom displays meeting participants alongside shared content.
These examples illustrate the opportunity beyond simply enlarging a phone interface. A useful foldable layout can keep related information visible together, reducing the need to switch views.
Whether that feels better in practice depends on details such as text size, control placement and how reliably an app preserves its position when the phone opens or closes.
Not every featured app update is ready on day one
Apple says Microsoft Word and Outlook will receive expanded layouts in the coming weeks. Zenless Zone Zero’s Duo update and UnGodly’s release are scheduled for November, while DoorDash’s larger-map experience is expected later this year.
For buyers, an app appearing in a promotional roundup is therefore not enough to establish that its advertised interface is available immediately.
Check the installed version and release notes, especially if a particular app is central to your work.
What about Spotify and YouTube?
Neither appears in this Apple showcase. That omission does not demonstrate that either app is unavailable or incompatible with the device.
Compatibility, optimisation and promotion are different things. An app may run without offering a specialised foldable layout, and an announcement may highlight only a selection of available software.
It would also be premature to promise that a missing app will receive an update shortly after launch. That requires information from its developer.
Does this mean iPhone Duo apps are better than Android foldable apps?
Apple’s showcase cannot settle that comparison.
A fair assessment would compare the same tasks in the same apps: composing a document, joining a video call, watching a programme or moving between folded and unfolded screens.
It should also distinguish an app’s own layout from the phone’s system-level multitasking. Running two apps side by side is useful, but it does not necessarily mean either app has been redesigned for a foldable.
The number of announced apps is another incomplete measure. A long catalogue matters less to an individual buyer than reliable support for the handful of apps they use every day.
How to identify adapted apps
Apple says App Store product pages will use a Made for iPhone Duo badge to identify optimised apps.
Treat that as a discovery aid rather than a substitute for checking the experience yourself. Before committing to a new workflow, test navigation, typing, video playback and display transitions in your essential apps.
Apple has presented a promising set of foldable experiences. The stronger verdict will come from how consistently those experiences work after launch—and how quickly developers deliver the updates still on the schedule.
